Operation Christmas Child will be collecting shoeboxes for delivery during the pandemic. Fill a shoebox with small gifts for impoverished children. Due to the pandemic, drop off locations will be limited, and will not be announced until after Oct. 26th.  Samaritan's Purse is encouraging everyone to go online to build boxes. Please use the link below to build shoeboxes to donate from our church--its quick, easy, and fun! If you prefer to pack a traditional shoebox, you can ship your box to:  Operation Christmas Child, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC  28607. Brochures are available in the foyer.  If you have questions, please contact Dawn Worsham.

A few weeks ago we looked at this promise of God:  Jesus Will Return.  At the end of the message, I briefly touched on what our response should be to this promise. Our response can be summarized in one word: readiness.  Be prepared.  Jesus taught five parables that emphasized the importance of making sure that we are ready to meet him when he returns.

I didn’t go into detail in my sermon, but here are six ways that we, as Christians, can prepare for Jesus’ Second Coming.

  1. Purify our lives- 1 John 3:2-3
  2. Stay connected to Christ- 1 John 2:28
  3. Use trouble to become spiritually strong- 1 Thessalonians 5:23
  4. Practice loving everyone-James 2:8
  5. Invest in the bank of heaven-Luke 12:33
  6. Use the gifts God gave me to reach others-2 Peter 3:15

When will Jesus return?  We don’t know when the Second Coming will occur.  We just know that it will happen.  We also know that it could happen at any moment.  That’s why we should always be ready.

Should we, as Christians, fear the Second Coming of Jesus?  No, for we have nothing to fear.  Jesus will return to take us home to heaven.  Instead of fear, the Bible tells us that we should anticipate the Second Coming of Jesus and welcome it gladly.

If the President of the United States were coming to your house, wouldn’t you get ready for his visit?  One day, and perhaps soon, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords will return for us.  Let’s get ready to meet him.
